Hanna Grol-Prokopczyk, PhD, is a medical sociologist and demographer. Her current research focuses on chronic pain: its measurement, its social distribution, and its consequences (including opioid use and mortality).
She is principal investigator on a five-year, National Institute on Aging-funded project on “The Demography of Chronic Pain: A Population Approach to Pain Trends, Pain Disparities, and Pain-Related Disability and Death” (1R01 AG065351; 2020-2025). Dr. Grol-Prokopczyk also conducts research on how surveys can best generate interpersonally and internationally comparable measures of subjective health conditions, and on U.S. counterterrorism policy. Her work has appeared in journals including Demography, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences, and PAIN.
