Dr. Standiford Helm MD, MBA

Standiford Helm, MD is the Interventional Pain Management representative on the Carrier Advisory Committee for Medicare in California. He has practiced interventional pain management since 1982 and is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology with subspecialty certification in Pain Medicine and of the American Board of Pain Medicine.He is also a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP), and an examiner for FIPP.

Dr. Helm is a graduate of Harvard College and Tufts University. He works as a consultant and expert witness for multiple organizations, and serves in leadership positions with state-wide and national pain management societies, publishes, and lectures extensively. He has published extensively on interventional pain management issues, has lectured internationally and taught pain management procedures.

Dr. Helm has been active in the effort, both on a State and a National basis, to ensure that patients have access to those pain procedures which have been proven effective and to medication. Dr. Helm has had the honor of working with FBI and DEA agents to assist them in discriminating between practitioners who are prescribing medications for a legitimate medical purpose and those who supplying medications used for abuse or diversion.
