Dr. Thelma B. Wright MD, Esq, MBA

Director, Pain Management Center; Assistant Professor, Department of Anesthesiology, University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopedics Institute

Thelma B. Wright, MD, Esq, MBA, completed her medical studies at the Howard University College of Medicine in 2001. She then completed a one year internship in Internal Medicine at the Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. Subsequently, she completed an Anesthesiology residency and a Pain Medicine fellowship training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville.

Dr. Wright has been with the University of Maryland Medical Center since 2006 and has served as the Medical Director of the University of Maryland Pain Management Center at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopedics Institute since 2007. As the Director of the Pain Management Center at the University of Maryland Baltimore and a healthcare provider, she has formed strong relationships with other accredited pain centers throughout the country to exchange ideas. 

In addition to clinical experience, she is the primary investigator for a pilot clinical trial on neuropathy. Throughout this research and clinical experience, Dr. Wright has spearheaded strategies on engagement of patients with chronic pain disorders.
In 2010,Dr. Wright obtained her Law degree since she has always been interested in the legal aspects of healthcare. After graduating law school, Dr. Wright was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2013. She currently collaborates with attorneys in the locale in cases involving medical malpractice, mostly doing defense work. She is also on the Ethics and Risk management committees at the Medical Center.

Dr. Wright is currently enrolled at the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith MBA program, general studies, with a projected graduation year of 2022.
